Indecent dressing and the cases of rape in our society


In recent years, the occurences of the social menace called rape seems to be growing at an alarming rate. These days, the news of the day is never complete if it doesnt contain an incident of rape somewhere. What is even more heart rending is the brutality that accompanies this heinous act these days. Not only are the victims raped, they are also maimed or murdered in the most cruel manner imaginable. But, that is not my area of focus actually. Maybe that will be a subject for another article. My main focus is the act of rape itself and why it has become so prevalent in our society.
It is noteworthy, and interestingly so, that as the cases of rape keeps growing, so also is the ugly trend of indecent dressing especially among the youths. While both male and female are culprits in this case, i will choose to focus on the female gender since they are mostly the victims of rape in our society. My big question now is: could there be a connection between the act of rape and indecent dressing among the females? My candid answer to that question, if you asked me, would be  in the affirmative.
Lets dwell a little on the issue of indecent dressing so you can appreciate where i am coming from.
Indecent dressing simply means delibrately exposing ones body to the public. This social malady dies not conform to the norms and values of our society, particularly the african society. Well, that is a subject for some other time as well. However, this practice is now so common in public places. Even in the churches and offices. Many of them excuse their manner of dressing with such phrases as: "only God can judge me, you cant", "leave them alone", "everyone is entitled to his or her opinion", "mind your business", and so on.
Many of our  celebrities are not helping matters as they lead the way in such manner of dressing. Infact, many follow them because they are viewed as "role models" in the society.
Be that as it may, here is where the connection lies between indecent dressing and rape.
From a psychological perspective, every human has internal drives that propel us to engage in any activity you can think of. Infact, if there are no drives, we will not be willing or able to do virtually everything. These drives can be used either positively or negatively, as the case may be.
One of these internal drives is the sex drive. Sex drive can be very high in men, especially when they see sensitive body parts of a female exposed. In other words, when a man sees a lady who bares her body, his internal sex drives are awakened and charged immediately. With that drive getting stronger, all that he will be thinking about is how to have a feel of what he is seeing. It is the body chemistry at work and will take a lot of self control to keep such feeling in check.
Now, just imagine what would happen if a man continues to dwell on that desire, with the object of attraction right before him and no fear of God in him to help control such unwholesome desire. Your guess is as good as mine. He will have no "peace" until he has satisfied that sexual desire that is raging inside of him. The end result therefore is rape. Mind you, i am not trying to justify rape. I never will. I am only revealing the cause of it.
So, whats the point here? It is that indecent dressing is one of the major causes of rape in the society. Infact, it is a direct invitation to rape. As long as ladies keep walking "nude" on the streets in the name of fashion, we will not stop having cases of rape in the society.
